Your Guide to Planetary Energies for

March 19 to 25, 2018

by Pam Younghans

THE ASTROLOGICAL NEW YEAR begins this Tuesday when the Sun enters Aries, the first sign of the zodiac. This is also the equinox, of course, when spring begins in the Northern Hemisphere and autumn begins in the Southern.

A chart cast for the moment of an equinox is said to describe the themes we'll be working with over the next three months. So, let's take a look at the chart run for March 20 at 9:15 a.m. PDT (4:15 p.m. GMT).

IN THE EQUINOX CHART, the Sun is within two degrees of Chiron (which is still in Pisces), indicating an opportunity to heal old wounds that have caused a lack of faith and low self-confidence. But, the Sun and Chiron are both square Mars in Capricorn, so we will also be dealing with frustrations and anger, especially when others use their authority to control us in some way. The challenge will be to know how and when to be assertive, without becoming aggressive or defaulting to victim mode.

The Moon is in Taurus for the equinox, in very close trine aspect to Saturn and widely trine Mars. This is a very positive and stabilizing influence, helping us maintain an inner calm that will enable us to accomplish our goals.

THE MOON is also aligned with the fixed star Adhil, activating themes of personal empowerment, and bringing up issues related to the use and abuse of authority.

According to Roderick Kidston's book The Magic of the Stars:

"Adhil is all about how you stand up for yourself, fight your corner if necessary, and do your thing without being interfered with, much less overruled. You can think big with this star, or small if you prefer; the important thing is you think your thoughts your own way. It's all about discovering who you are as a person, and manifesting as freely and fully as you possibly can."

ALSO NOTABLE in the equinox chart is the close alignment of Mercury and Venus in Aries. With these two planets working side by side, new relationships and alliances can be forged and new creative projects can be launched.

However, the two planets are challenged by a square aspect with Pluto in Capricorn. This echoes some of the themes brought forward by the fixed star Adhil -- in particular, how we use our personal power in daily life. To avoid problems and power struggles, we will need to keep our communications very clear, avoid using manipulation in any form, and be willing to collaborate and brainstorm with others, even if we're very sure that our ideas are superior.

MERCURY goes retrograde on Thursday, at 5:18 p.m. PDT (which is 12:18 a.m. GMT on Friday). This backward-motion phase lasts until April 15, so we'll want to make sure that we double check our facts and figures on any paperwork (tax forms!) we complete during this time. The main warning here is not to rush through anything that takes mental acuity, but to give yourself plenty of time to calmly and carefully do the work.

Mercury retrograde is not merely a time to be extra cautious in activities that require clear thinking, however. If we want to utilize the positive attributes of this planet's reversed motion, we will also make the time for some introspection. Astrologer Bil Tierney writes that:

"The Mercury retrograde period is excellent for involvement in research, editing, revising written work, etc. It is also good for meditation, in-depth self-analysis, and various forms of psychological techniques for self-understanding. This is a constructive time for re-appraisal; new activities should be planned out in detail during this period but not executed, while unresolved matters from the past are best completed."

ONE LAST NOTE on the equinox chart to leave you with: The chart also shows Neptune and Juno aligned, with both in positive aspect to Saturn.

With Neptune involved, this influence may manifest more on the subtle realms than in what we usually call "real life." But the meaning of these planets working together is a strengthening of spiritual partnership. This can be between soul partners here on the earth plane, between our human self and a spirit on the other side of the veil, or between our personality self and our Divine Self.

Our telepathic connections with others are enhanced as these planets work together, likewise our capacity for empathy and compassion. Something to explore and enjoy over these next three months!

IF YOUR BIRTHDAY IS THIS WEEK: Relationships, finances, and your core values are foremost in your thoughts throughout the coming year. There may be times when you'll feel compelled to fight for your preferences or rights in these areas. It will be important to stay in your own power, and not give it away to others, either through over-aggression or by compromising your ethics. As you stay true to your higher self, you increase your capacity for making creative and practical contributions that will benefit the higher good.

In peace,

Understand this is an opportunity to reinvent ourselves in a better way.

Understand there will be a price to pay, something may need to go.

If you lose something or someone, understand this is the sign of these times, use a crisis to venture into new horizons and create something new.

Do your best to do good: whatever you seed now will have effect now and later.

There is probably more than can be said and explained, but you get the point An incredible opportunity is arising, now and throughout 2010this type of cycle has not happened in recent history. We can expect a certain level of destruction to occur-that is the price to paybut the prospect of experiencing an awakening and creating a better future is now within reach. We are now in the midst of a revolution-a cultural, social, and political revolution. On a personal level, it is a conceptual, emotional, and or spiritual revolutiontruly, it is in the making!

Total Solar Eclipse 2017

On Monday, August 21, 2017, all of North America will be treated to an eclipse of the sun. Anyone within the path of totality can see one of nature’s most awe inspiring sights - a total solar eclipse. This path, where the moon will completely cover the sun and the sun's tenuous atmosphere - the corona - can be seen, will stretch from Salem, Oregon to Charleston, South Carolina. Observers outside this path will still see a partial solar eclipse where the moon covers part of the sun's disk. created this website to provide a guide to this amazing event. Here you will find a video, times to watch in various location , how to view safely, and more.

As she orbits the Earth, the Moon varies in her physical distance from us. When she is closest, she is at "perigee"; when when she is furthest away, she is at "apogee."

This photo, copied from, compares the size of a full moon at apogee and at perigee using the same camera lens. The Web site explains that:

"The apogee and perigee of the moon have a definite affect on the weather and tides here on Earth. When the moon is at apogee, the furthest distance from the Earth, it has less gravitational pull. Weather conditions can be more stable and the tides more predictable. When the moon is at perigee, closer to the Earth, there is much more gravitational pull and it can whip up the tides and cause weather to become more unstable." The increased electromagnetic field felt on Earth when the Moon is at perigee affects not only our physical weather, but our internal "weather" as well.

We are learning to think in new ways, using the right half of the brain as well as the left. It is the right half of the brain that gives us access to higher-level experiences, while the left half allows us to deal with the physical world and its rules and limitations.

There's a fascinating and inspirational online video that explains more about these ideas, for those who wish to view it:

This link takes you to a 20-minute talk given by Jill Bolte Taylor, a brain researcher who experienced a stroke, but who retained her conscious awareness of the experience. The stroke interrupted the usual activities of the left side of her brain, allowing the right side of her brain to take over.

This woman's experience of "nirvana" during her stroke has given me solace during a time when my own father has been having multiple strokes. And, her story gives considerable insights into how developing the right side of the brain is perhaps the experience of "ascension" we on planet Earth are working toward.

If you prefer to read the text of Jill's talk rather than view the video, here's the link to that transcript:

As time speeds up, the left sides of our brains are going into overwhelm on a regular basis, just from the sheer magnitude of information and experience coming in. It occurs to me after hearing Jill's story that perhaps one higher intention of this overwhelm and subsequent shut-down is to encourage us to utilize the right side of our brains, thereby gaining access to a higher level of wisdom.

The planet Quaoar (pronounced KWAH-o-wahr), a "minor planet" discovered seven years ago that, due to differences in orbit, is sometimes closer to the Sun than Pluto.

Quaoar is still being defined as to its astrological effect, but here are some opinions to consider:

Quaoar inspires our return to the sacredness of life and to natural law, to synchronize with and live according to the natural laws of creation. (Nick Anthony Fiorenza)

Quaoar will reshape the way we think about ourselves, our spiritual evolution, and our place in The Universe. (Richard Brown)

Quaoar allows us to directly access our ability to manifest our reality without the use of super or extra natural means. (Beth Turnage)

Quaoar is associated with the power of our personal creation mythologies -- everything from how we were created, to how we 'create ourselves' in the process of life. (Kirsti Melto)

 A New Zodiac:

Fact or Fiction? ... A 13th Astrological Sign ?

 Full Article : Click Here

The mainstream mediasphere lit up in the past few days with tales of a new zodiac. Yes, there is potentially a 13th sign of the zodiac known in ancient times, and it's re-emerging into the astrological lexicon today. This is Ophiuchus, the Serpent Holder, also known as Serpentarius. Unfortunately, the news reports are hopelessly garbled, and the table that's circulating showing "new dates" of the astrological signs is flat-out wrong. I'm hearing from people all over asking about this announcement and a so-called "new zodiac." As a former journalist myself, I know how easy it is for the media to distort the facts when they don't understand the subject matter they're trying to explain, especially if they only quote one source.

  For the record:

 1. There is no "new zodiac." There's a sidereal zodiac and a tropical zodiac, both very old. There are other zodiacs, as well, in various traditions.

 2. Yes, there is a constellation called Ophiuchus (or Serpentarius), and the Sun transits this region of the sky each December.

 3. Ophiuchus may or may not be a sign of the zodiac, depending on your perspective.

As you discern your own truth about all this, here's something to consider. If the zodiac suddenly changed, don't you think you'd hear about it first from a reputable astrologer rather than NBC Nightly News? The gift of the Serpent Holder is a sacred mystery to be explored and savored. I've been teaching and writing about this subject for the past several years and invite you to read about it my Evolutions blog.

There is a new book out called The Dictator's Astrologer by Roberleigh H Claigh. The book is all about Afra Waesch (the astrologer) and Hitler, comparing their paths, hers toward the light and his toward darkness. Afra was my mother's teacher, and her best friend, whom we children were all fortunate to have influence us also. It was she who introduced my sisters and I to spirituality. Fascinating read. Thought some of you might be interested, especially the people who know astrology as charts are done and analyzed on the top people who surrounded Hitler. Basically it is a great comparison of two people whose paths intertwine and how one's choices make all the difference. The book also indicates how well Afra's Light protected her, even in the most difficult of times. Sharon Wyeth
