Quote from Djwhal Khul:

First, the true enquirer is one who avails himself of the wisdom of his generation, who is the best product of his own period and yet who remains unsatisfied and with the inner longing for wisdom unappeased. To him there appears to be something of more importance than knowledge and something of greater moment than the accumulated experience of his own period and time. He recognizes a step further on and seeks to take it in order to gain something to add to the quota already gained by his compeers. Nothing satisfies him until he finds the Way, and nothing appeases the desire at the center of his being except that which is found in the house of his Father. He is what he is because he has tried all lesser ways and found them wanting, and has submitted to many guides only to find them "blind leaders of the blind". Nothing is left to him but to become his own guide and find his own way home alone.

Plane-to-Plane Memorandum

To: My Beloved Students

From: Master Djwhal Khul

Subject: May 2012 Message

Beloved Students:

Once again, we come together in the newness of another month.  As we enter the month of May, I hope all of you will be relishing in the precious gifts this month will bring.  May the seeds of enlightenment bring forth abundant fruit in due time.

I hope each of you will find our focus for this month (Ascension, Chapter V) to be quite rich.  Once again, we will be looking into some of the differences between ordinary mind and enlightened mind.  Having partaken of the prior four lessons, the idea of further penetrating either of these so-called "minds" may not seem to be very tempting.  Yet, it is my goal to offer substantive teachings and simply stated, some topics need to be approached from more than one direction.

Further, we will ponder the provocative mystery of Emptiness.  Indeed, this mystery is not so difficult to grasp and ultimately realize.  Perhaps it seems ungraspable because often, folks look for clues in all the wrong places.  While the goal is, of course, to cut through the illusion(s) that block the apprehension of Emptiness, as you will see, there are avenues to approach the mystery and, hopefully, make it more accessible.

For those of you who may have become a bit bored with this year's teachings, perhaps the lesson this month will re-engage you for the remainder of the journey.  Boredom reveals itself to be a kind of dying energy, does it not?  The series of teachings for this year, however, are geared to bring you more fully into life; indeed, life as you may never have known it!

Thus for the bored, the uninspired and/or the unwilling, I want to encourage you to "take heart," as the saying goes.  Never relinquish your vision of the goal, for without that vision, what will light your path and illuminate your way?

For most people, the mind will be tempted to fixate upon one's relationship to matter.  Since matter is everywhere, the art of manipulating matter (perhaps as an alchemist) must surely be pivotal to spiritual accomplishment.  The study of matter is truly compelling.  Indeed, it occupied the full focus of science for centuries.

In the end, or so most aspirants seem to believe, mastering matter must prove something about one's spiritual accomplishments.  While such certainly could be argued from at least a couple of standpoints, humans may have an even more pertinent connection than the relationship to, and power over, matter.  I'm referring here to one's profound relationship to space.

At first blush, the notion of having a relationship to space may sound ridiculous, particularly for those of you dancing with boredom and/or discouragement.  These two emotional conditions can seem heavy and over-bearing when visited upon the psyche.  One might even be tempted to hold that both the heaviness and overbearing quality must surely be "real."  Yet, once again we must note that simply because they are really experienced, this is simply not proof that these sensations are in any way "real."

Indeed, it is only upon exiting the tunnels of boredom or discouragement, that their true nature can be recognized that they are utterly empty of any reality of their own.  Both, you see, are utterly dependent upon the arising of certain causes and conditions.  Without these, neither can manifest.  Yet, it is precisely because these causes and conditions arise that the illusion of both can be experienced.

As we noted last month, illusions, cannot appear without a perceiving mind (in this case, a bored or discouraged mind) to observe them.  Yet, just as the mind believes that all appearances and illusions exist somewhere outside itself, it also believes that emotional conditions such as boredom and discouragement afflict it from somewhere "out there."

Because ordinary mind cannot distinguish between what it perceives and what it uses to do the perceiving, it also cannot distinguish between what it feels and what it uses to do the feeling.  Simply stated, the apprehension of the designated source for the suffering, and the label applied to the suffering, both arise within the "space" of ordinary mind.

What's so important about space?  Well, a rather impressive characteristic of space is that it may be the only thing one ever encounters in the phenomenal world that cannot be altered, disturbed nor destroyed.  Therefore, it might behoove an aspirant to apply some focused mental force to the matter, looking carefully into his/her relationship to space.

It turns out that the characteristics of space are characteristics an aspirant might truly desire to cultivate.  Let me give you a sampling:  unlike everything in the material world, space is real.  Further, unlike material objects, space is utterly authentic. Unlike ordinary mind, space remains perpetually undisturbed, and utterly stable.  Clearly, these are precisely the qualities of an enlightened mind.

This, of course, is just the "teaser" for the recorded lesson for May.  I invite each of you to explore deeply not only the qualities of space, but the precious relationship you have with space.  Indeed, to accomplish the achievement of enlightenment, one must become intimately related to space.  Further, one must ultimately become creatively participatory with space.

As you will hear in the recorded teaching, if one is to actually generate enlightenment, s/he will need to actually fuse his/her awareness with the limitless potential of space.  This is what is needed to transcend the mere conceptual understanding of space and enter a direct experience of space (or emptiness).

Now granted, some practical application is essential here.  Thus, the recorded lesson ends with a recommendation for meditation, which should prove most helpful a thread we will pick up in our work in Breckenridge in another month.

I look forward to exploring the depths of mystery with each one of you, and I hold forth for your utter success and glory.  In the meantime, walk in peace, know peace, share peace and become peace.

Your loving Teacher,

Djwhal Khul
